Cold sores are caused by a virus and it can be seen on lips, mouth or nose in form of small, painful, fluid-filled blisters. Sores can remain usually for many days and can generate lots of pain too. Cold sores can often recur and attack on our body as this virus is not completely removed by the body defenses.
Causes of Cold Sores:
HSV-1 or Herpes simplex virus is the reason behind the cold sore problem. People can get infected with this virus by a close contact with someone who is suffering from cold sore problem. Oral sex can also cause the problem of cold sore if oral sex is made with someone suffering with genital Herpes (HSV-2 Virus). Cold sore is not spread from the use of cups, flannels or towels used by a patient.
Children can easily get affected with cold sores if someone who is facing the problem of cold sore kisses them. Cold sore virus passes through skin and travel in our body through nerves. After traveling, these viruses hide in the root of nerve and wait until they get activated.
When the virus is activated, it travels back to the skin, causing a tingling sensation. When the sore appears, it's itchy, painful and embarrassing because it's so noticeable.
Many things like menstrual periods, bright sunlight, cold winds, emotional upset and many more can trigger the attack of cold sores.
Prevention:
You should try to avoid or stay away from the things which can trigger the attack of cold sore. For this you should always try to use a lip balm having ultra violet protection and should try to be happy and away from stress as much as you can. You should consume the food in which you can easily get the minerals like vitamin A, C and E. All these vitamins help our immune system to remain strong.
